The short version
TinkerTabs does not collect, transmit, or store any of your data on external servers. Everything you save — tab titles, URLs, notes — lives exclusively in your browser using Chrome's built-in local storage. TinkerTabs has no accounts, no backend, and no analytics.
What is stored
When you use TinkerTabs, the following data is saved using chrome.storage.local — a browser API that stores data locally on your device only:
- Tab titles and URLs — saved when you capture or manually add a tab to a folder
- Folder names — the names you give to your folders
- Notes — personal notes you write on saved tabs
- Video URLs — YouTube or Vimeo links you attach to a tab
- Favicon URLs — the small icons shown on tab cards, loaded directly from the original website
All of this data is stored in chrome.storage.local on your device. It is not synced to any TinkerTabs server. It persists until you delete it from within the extension or uninstall the extension.
What is NOT collected
- No user accounts or identifiers of any kind
- No data sent to any TinkerTabs server (there is none)
- No analytics or usage tracking
- No crash reporting or error telemetry
- No browsing history beyond what you explicitly save
- No advertising identifiers or third-party tracking pixels
- No cross-device sync (data stays on the device where TinkerTabs is installed)
Chrome permissions used
TinkerTabs requests the following Chrome permissions:
- tabs — to read the title and URL of your open browser tabs when you choose to capture them. TinkerTabs only reads tab data when you take an explicit action (clicking "Capture Tabs" or using the right-click context menu).
-
storage — to save your folders, tabs, and notes to
chrome.storage.localon your device. - contextMenus — to add the "Save to TinkerTabs" option to your browser's right-click menu. No data is collected — it simply triggers the same save action available inside the extension.
No other permissions are requested or used.
Third-party services
TinkerTabs itself does not communicate with any third-party service. However, two optional user-initiated features involve third-party content:
- YouTube and Vimeo — if you attach a YouTube or Vimeo video URL to a saved tab, TinkerTabs opens that video in your browser using a standard link. TinkerTabs does not send any data to YouTube or Vimeo; normal browser rules apply when you visit those sites.
- Favicon images — tab cards display the favicon of the saved website. These images are loaded directly from the original website domain in your browser. TinkerTabs does not proxy or cache favicon images on any server.
The optional in-extension feedback form uses Web3Forms to route messages to support@tinkertabs.com. If you submit feedback, your message and optional name are sent via Web3Forms. No other data is included. Use of the feedback form is entirely optional.
Data retention and deletion
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you are in full control of it. You can delete any saved tab, folder, or note directly inside the extension at any time.
Uninstalling TinkerTabs from Chrome will remove the extension and all associated
chrome.storage.local data from your device.
